Priced at €31,975 in Germany

Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the GTD (Gran Turismo Diesel) version of the Golf Variant.
The Golf family keeps on growing as Volkswagen has introduced a GTD Variant which follows in the footsteps of the hatchback. Prototypes of the model have been previously caught on camera by our spy photographers so we already knew Volkswagen was cooking up a high-performance diesel Golf wagon which is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder rated at 184 HP (135 kW) at 3,500 rpm and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) in the 1,750 and 3,250 rpm range.
It sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in just 7.9 seconds which makes it 0.4s slower than GTD hatchback. Top speed has not been specified but it's probably a bit lower than the hatch which can do 143 mph (230 km/h). Aside from being very quick, the hot diesel wagon is also frugal as fuel consumption stands at only 4.4 liters / 100 km (53.4 mpg US or 64 mpg UK).
The model can be visually distinguished by its GTD front & rear bumpers, honeycomb radiator grille, flared sills and smoked taillights. It also comes with black roof rails, dual chrome exhaust setup, 17-inch Curitiba alloy wheels (optional 18-inch Nogaro available). standard bi-xenon headlights while the suspension has been lowered by 15mm compared to the standard model.
On the inside it gets Clark tartan-wrapped sport seats, black headliner and pillar trims along with illuminated door sills and stainless steel pedal caps. Also part of the package are the checkered black decorative inserts & panels, golf-ball styled gear knob and a multi-function steering wheel featuring an aluminum trim.
Already available on order in Germany, the Volkswagen Golf GTD variant kicks off at €31,975 and can be optionally configured with a €965 Sports and Design package bringing 18-inch Nogaro wheels, tinted windows, red brake calipers and driving mode selection.
A public debut is programmed for early March at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
