Only 30 cars built in US specification
The last BMW M5 30 Jahre M5 built in US specification will be auctioned on January 15 in Scottsdale, Arizona by Barret-Jackson.It was May last year when BMW introduced a special edition M5 "30 Jahre M5" celebrating the 30th anniversary of the model and now it's your last chance to buy the US version. Production is capped at 300 units but BMW allocated only 30 of them for the North American market so most likely many will place a bid in an attempt to own the most powerful BMW model ever made.
It packs a mighty 600 HP (441 kW) punch from an uprated twin-turbo V8 4.4-liter engine which generates a massive 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) torque. All that power is transferred to the rear axle via a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox which allows the M5 30 Jahre M5 rocket to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.9 seconds, making it a substantial 0.4s faster than the standard car.
BMW has electronically limited top speed to 155 mph (250 km/h) but an optional M Driver's Package raises the limiter to 190 mph (305 km/h). It comes with the Competition Package featuring a reprogrammed M Dynamic Mode, a -10mm lower suspension and stiffer anti-sway bars. The additional power of the V8 was obtained by increasing the charge pressure and by installing a revised management system.
Barret-Jackson will action the car on January 15 in Scottsdale, with all proceeds to benefit BMW Club of America Ffoundation. The winning bidder will also participate in an M Driving School program to "better prepare him or her for the thrill of properly driving this important high performance vehicle."
