Nissan IDx and Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge Reportedly Ruled Out
New reports have emerged suggesting that both the Nissan IDx and Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge have been ruled out for production.
According to Automotive News, Nissan has changed tune from last year and now wants to maintain focus on volume production cars rather than limited and market-restricted models. The change in opinion reportedly comes after the firm’s former global product planning chief, Andy Palmer left for Aston Martin last year while Infiniti’s former president, Johan de Nysschen also left the company last year to head up Cadillac.
Palmer was a keen advocate for putting the Toyota GT86 rivalling Nissan IDx into production while de Nysschen all but confirmed during his tenure that the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge Concept would reach the light of day with a twin-turbocharged V6 engine.
If the Nissan IDx were to reach production, it would have reportedly used a 1.6-liter direct-injection turbocharged engine delivering around 200 hp to rival the Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ. As for the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge, the original concept used the Nissan GT-R’s 3.8-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder pumping out 568 hp and 600 Nm of torque.
