Ferrari 288 GTO Detailed Before RM Auctions Arizona

On January 15, a pristine 1984 Ferrari 288 GTO will cross the auction block courtesy of RM Auctions and could sell for up to $2.4 million.
This particular Ferrari 288 GTO was the very first example delivered to Japan and originally purchased by Yoshiho Matsuda. It remained in his collection until 2010, has less than 11,000 km on the clock and is chassis #55237.

It was the 137th Ferrari 288 GTO created and is fitted with key extras like air conditioning, power windows, the optional Ansa sports exhaust system as well as red seat inserts designed to match the exterior. It originally arrived in Japan on April 10, 1985 and when it left Matsuda’s collection in 2010, it had 9500 km under its belt. It was then imported to the United States and includes original Japanese importation forms, registration documents as well as the original tool set, jack and spare keys.

As a reminder, the Ferrari 288 GTO was created to compete in the FIA Group B rally championship and had to be homologated in a production run of 200 cars to be granted an entrance into Group B. However, the rally series was cancelled before the 288 GTO could ever compete. Nevertheless, it is still incredibly impressive and features a 2.8-litre V8 engine delivering 400 hp and 366 lb-ft of torque.
