If you’re an avid reader of our BMW Blog here on autoevolution, you’re probably tired of the number of times I told you that the E39 M5 is my favorite. I don’t really care though, as that car was totally awesome and you can tell me differently every day of the week, I’ll still claim the same thing.
Another car that is amongst my favorite but for a different reason is the E9 New Six. This time, it’s not the drivetrain that got me hooked but that incredibly good looking body created by Karmann. Yes, it’s one of the most beautiful Bimmers ever made and it deserves to be used as a reference point in art schools.
But how about getting the two together? No, not the M5 body and the E9 engines but the other way around. That’s right, how about an E9 CS fitted with a 4.9-liter V8 S62 engine? Impossible? I think not! Actually, I know it’s possible because someone already did it.
The guys from CarBuildIndex.com are reporting about a resto-mod project done in Germany. However, unlike other similar cars, this one is not just an engine and transmission swap. The car was actually crafted on top of the chassis comprised of everything needed from an M5.
From the engine to the 6-speed manual transmission and even the brakes, everything was carried over. Even the ABS system and all the electronics are working while the interior is also borrowed from the E39 platform and we have to say that a couple of airbags are highly recommended for this sort of power levels.
The end result is absolutely breath taking and worth every second of attention spent on it. Like it or not, this might’ve just climbed all the way up to the top of my favorite cars ever made list.
