Porsche has confirmed plans to offer a turbodiesel engine option for
its compact Macan crossover SUV here in the U.S. Andre Oosthuizen, vice
president of marketing for Porsche Cars North America told industry
journal Automotive News that the engine, a variation of Porsche's
3.0-liter force-fed V6 diesel already available in various other world
markets, would go on sale here late next year or in early 2016.
Currently developing 255 horsepower elsewhere, the Macan turbodiesel
is expected to produce around 245 horses in U.S. tune. No word on how --
or if -- the federalization process will change the engine's 428 lb-ft
torque spec. While pricing for this upcoming addition to the linep has
yet to be finalized, Oosthuizen stated it will likely start in the
neighborhood of $60,000, neatly splitting the current Macan S that opens
at $50,895 and the Macan Turbo that commences at $73,295.
