- Dacia have sold 60% more cars this year compared to same period in 2013
- Sold 18,583 up until the end of September - nearly 4,000 more than Jaguar
- Statistics show Dacia is fastest growing car brand in Europe
Dacia
has firmly established itself as one of the fastest growing car makes
in Britain, selling 18,583 so far in 2014 – more than the entire number
it shifted last year. Sales are up nearly 60 per cent compared to the
same period in 2013.
The
no-nonsense bargain motors saw 3,523 new owners pick one up last month,
a rise of 27.7 per cent compared to September last year, Society of
Motor Manufacturer and Traders data showed.
As
a result of its booming popularity, Dacia now holds a 0.95 per cent
overall market share, compared to 0.65 per cent this time in 2013, as it
continues to strike a chord with cash-strapped motorists.
The
figures mean Dacia now sell more motors in Britain than established
brands such as Mitsubishi and Jaguar, despite their sales also booming.
Jaguar
has sold 14,627 cars so far this year, 10.3 per cent higher than at the
same period last year while Mitsubishi sales are up 50 per cent, from
7,416 to 11,162.
Data
from the SMMT yesterdayshowed overall car sales are up 9.1 per cent so
far this year and were 5.6 per cent higher in September, when the new
64-plate launched.
So
far this year, just over half of all the cars sold in the UK have been
to private individuals, with the rest going to fleet or business
customers, according to SMMT.
Dacia, however, is one of the few to buck this trend with 91.8 per cent of its customers this year being private individuals.
The brand, owned by Renault, has proved popular with its ‘you do the maths,’ marketing campaign.
Dacia launched its range of motors at the start of 2013 and quickly made headlines as the ‘cheapest new car’ in Britain.
Its
Sandero family hatchback starts at £5,995, the Sandero Stepway
crossover hatch at £8,395, the Logan MCV estate car at £6,995 and the
new Duster SUV at £9,495.
The
new Duster went on sale in September with upgrades for the outside and
inside of the vehicle that first launched Dacia in the UK - but with no
increase in price.
Renault
itself has also had a bumper year, selling 50,732 motors so far in 2014
compared to just 32,320 at the same point last year.
Darren
Payne, Renault UK sales director, said: ‘The clear value of the Dacia
line-up is continuing to win over new customers and it’s the Sandero
family hatchback that is proving to be a runaway success with nearly
12,000 finding new homes in the UK so far this year.
‘Having
already passed last year’s sales total, and with the recent revisions
to the New Duster SUV we’re confident that yet more customers will "do
the maths" and try the UK’s smartest buy car brand in the months ahead.’
