Arguably the most outlandish Lamborghini ever made was not conceived during the Chrysler or Audi-owned era. The Italian carmaker was managed by Patrick and Jean Mimran from 1980 to 1987, the era that also gave us the Countach LP500 Quattrovalvole.

But in comparison to the wedge-shaped bedroom poster special, the Lamborghini LM002 was not as mainstream. Manufactured in 301 units from 1986 to 1993, the Rambo Lambo is, to this day, one of the rarest and most sought after vehicles ever made thanks to a plethora of enticing reasons.

Its enormous 290-liter tank fed the 5.2-liter V12 tower-of-power from the Countach Quattrovalvole, albeit with a lower compression ratio because it used 94 RON gasoline.

If the 444 HP six Weber carburetor-fed mill wasn’t enough for some customers, Lamborghini also offered a gargantuan 7.2-liter marine V12 engine, which was normally intended for Class 1 offshore powerboats.

With a curb weight of at least 2,700 kilos (5,952 pounds), the four-wheeled bastard lovechild between a couple of weightlifters puts the Humvee to shame

Such a machine changes hands for at least $200,000 nowadays, but what you can admire in the photo gallery below is arguably one of the best cared for examples in the world. What’s that special about it except for the pristine-looking bodywork? Why there’s a finely preserved cabin too...

...and a mere 18,000 miles (28,968 km) from when it was new in 1989. Furthermore, this is just a two-owner LM002, which will change owners yet again in January at the RM Auctions Arizona sale.

Also boasting with original Pirelli Scorpion off-road rubber (roughly $3,000 a pop), this bad boy will go under the hammer without reserve for at least $175k and up to $225k according to estimates.
