With us since 1988, the Suzuki
Vitara compact sport utility vehicle has become a success story for the
Japanese manufacturer. Also known as the Escudo, the nameplate is now at
its fourth generation. We’ve seen it in the flesh at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October and it’s really neat!
It may not boast with the same off-road capability as the quirky Jimny (new-gen to debut in 2016), but the 2015 Suzuki Vitara is much more grown up than its slightly plasticky and box-shaped predecessor. Just look at the boldly designed clamshell hood and how minimalistically functional the dashboard layout is.
Animated by the same M16 1.6 petrol engine and the D16AA 1.6-liter turbo diesel from the SX4 S-Cross, Suzuki offers the all-new Vitara with either a five-speed stick shift (petrol only), a six-speed manual gearbox (diesel only) or a six-speed automatic (petrol only).
If you want one, you’ll have to wait to take delivery until March 2015
For the Italian customer, the 2015 Suzuki Vitara Web Black Edition will come in one flavor only - 1.6 diesel with 120 PS and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque, AllGrip all-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. Priced at €28,000, this special lot of Vitaras come finished in “Total Black” paint.
Building on the V-TOP trim level, the Suzuki Vitara Web Black Edition packs all the goodies imaginable and some special add-ons - a Star View panoramic sunroof, as well as four winter tires with steelies and 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, among many other features included in the lavish V-TOP specification.
To be assembled at the automaker’s Magyar Suzuki plant in Hungary in early 2015, the all-new Suzuki Vitara compact crossover also comes with full-electric power steering and automatic emergency braking.
