James Bond Wouldn’t Drive the Aston Martin Works 60th Anniversary Vanquish

Remember when Aston Martin was a sportscar brand characterized by being less flashy than the big-pinion boys from Italy, Germany and the United States? We surely remember. After all, an Aston Martin is a car fit for international man of mystery Double O 7...

...or was. Even though the big screen James Bond movie franchise started with a modest Sunbeam Alpine SII in 1962’s flick Dr. No, the third 007 film debuted Bond’s long-lasting love for everything Aston Martin. 1964 was the year a young Sean Connery portrayed the MI6 spy, aided by a DB5, arguably the most revered car Bond has ever driven.

But that was 50 years ago and this is 2014, the year which saw the debut of the Aston Martin DB10. Agent 007’s new car won’t be put into production. It looks a little weird, it’s more or less a test bed for the next-gen Vantage and only 10 will be made for the filming of the upcoming James Bond SPECTRE, which will be out on the 6th of November next year.

It’s the first time a non-production car will be driven by the secret agent

Double O 7’s favorite ride was always sleek, elegant and not flashy, which beckons the question why did the British carmaker celebrate the 60th year of its Works historic home with this limited edition Aston Martin Vanquish Volante?

We really like the bespoke rotary knobs casted from metal sourced from older models of the Gaydon-based marque, but everything else is just too in your face not only for our favorite secret agent, but the typical Aston Martin buyer as well.
