New York 2015: 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder
GTspirit are at the New York Auto Show 2015 where we have seen the 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder for the very first time.
Compared to the Cayman GT4, power has is down slightly to a total of 375 hp. Torque figures are yet to be disclosed but the German marque has confirmed that the 718-generation Porsche Boxster Spyder will sprint to 96 km/h (60 mph) in a mere 4.3 seconds as well as a 290 km/h top speed.
Other mechanical modifications adopted by the Boxster Spyder compared to other Boxster variants like the GTS include a 20 mm reduction in ride height, the installation of firmer sports suspension as well as Porsche 911 Carrera S sourced brakes. Additionally, more direct steering has been implemented to improve the agility of the German sports car. The new Boxster Spyder is also available exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission.
As the name of the new sports car indications, it adopts a thoroughly revised design over the existing Boxster range. In a similar vein to the previous Porsche Boxster Spyder, the 2016 model implements a soft-top which has to be opened and closed by hand. A different rear decklid is also featured with it incorporating eye-catching buttresses.
To keep the weight of the 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder as low as possible, the car doesn’t feature a radio or an air conditioner but these features can be installed as options at no extra cost. The Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system is also available as an option.
When the Porsche Boxster Spyder hits the market in October in the United States, it will be priced from $82,100 excluding the $995 destination charge.
