S1000 to be an international model
A new report indicates Honda has approved for production a
Type R version of the S660 along with a beefier S1000 variant.
The mesmerizing Honda
S660 is only a Japanese affair and has already been pampered with the Mugen
treatment while a meaner Type R version is apparently in the works with
approximately 100 bhp (75 kW) and a more aggressive body to match the extra punch.
There's some good news about a broader availability of the petite
roadster as this latest report says the rumored S1000
has been given the green-light for production as a global model. If this turns
out to be legit, expect the S1000 to feature a newly developed 1.0-liter turbocharged VTEC gasoline
engine developing more than 127 bhp (95 kW), making it significantly punchier
than the S660 which has a 63 bhp 660cc engine.
Aside from receiving a power hike, the Honda S1000 is believed
to be 200mm wider and 150mm longer than the standard car and it should also
benefit from wider tires and a hard roof featuring a bespoke "snorkel-type" air
intake.
A source close to Honda told Motoring the S1000 will go on sale
mid to late 2016.
