At the RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island 2015 auctions, over $60 million worth of cars were sold. One of the most incredible was an exceptionally rare Ferrari 599 GTB with a six-speed manual transmission with it changing hands for a record $682,000.
That final price far exceeded pre-auction estimates which suggested the manual 599 GTB would sell for between $200,000 and $275,000. On reflection however, it is apparent that those estimates were quite pessimistic.
It is believed that just 20 examples of the Ferrari 599 GTB arrived in the United States with manual transmissions with the rest fitted with the semi-automatic paddle-shift gearbox. Alongside being fitted with a six-speed (a gated six-speed no less!), this 599 GTB has less than 3800 miles on the clock when it crossed the auction block and is a 2007 example.
Additionally, it includes optional features like Scuderia Ferrari fender shields, 20-inch Challenge wheels with carbon ceramic discs also featured. It also includes red brake calipers, an advanced Bose surround sound system and has spent most of its life in a climate-controlled collection. Complete with its black-on-black paint scheme, it seems inevitable that it will continue to rise in value!
