Mahindra Australia will replace the current Pik-Up with a revised model, which is due in Australia by Q2 2017 according to a local official.
The Mahindra Pik-Up
was built as a ute version of the Mahindra Scorpio, which isn’t
available for sale locally. The Scorpio was recently updated with a
revised front-end and interior, which will be used for the brand’s
global export ute, the Pik-Up.
Front-end revisions include new headlamps with LED daytime running
lights, a bonnet scoop and revised grille. Inside the cabin, changes
include a new infotainment unit and changes to the dashboard and layout.
Safety changes include a collapsible steering column, increased floor
stiffness and optimised torsional vibration. Changes to the steering
have also helped reduce the car’s turning radius from 5.7 to 5.4m.
When asked about the changes, Mahindra Australia marketing manager James Halliwell told CarAdvice that the revisions would be a significant step forward for the brand.
“Everything Changes. Entirely new front end and interior design.
Entirely new platform design for the front end with enhancements to
crash mitigation, track and turning radius,” Halliwell said.
“You could call this a leap to 4th or 5th generation Pik-Up. Previous
generation Scorpio and Scorpio Pik-Up have sold over 400,000 units
globally.”
Changes to the engine include a revised 2.2-litre four-cylinder
turbocharged mHawk diesel engine that produces 88kW of power and 280Nm
of torque and is mated to either a five-speed manual and six-speed
automatic gearbox.
While Mahindra doesn’t disclose sales figures and isn’t part of the
VFACTS reporting platform, the current generation Pik-Up has been on
sale locally since 2007, which means the company would be very eager for
its latest instalment to arrive locally.
