Canepa
Collection of Scotts Valley, CA, is offering a unique Porsche 914 for
sale which is in fact a 914 only in name. This heavily restomoded,
Carrera-engined, sinister-looking bad boy is one of the coolest cars –
nay, things – we have ever seen. And we want it. Real bad.
The car was purchased by its current
owner as a regular, albeit mechanically upgraded, 1974 Porsche 914. He
then set about converting the 914 into something amazing, beginning with
the bodywork.
Over a period of 22 months, the following
changes, and a lot more, were applied to the car: all-metal GT fender
flares front and rear, 2″ roof chop with steel hardtop, pop-up headlight
delete, door handles filled, trunk opener filled, wiper air vent
filled, antenna and windshield squirters filled, custom steel rocker
panels.
Then the work began on the drivetrain and
it started by replacing the 2.0 liter unit that came with the Porsche
914 with a 3.2 liter 911 Carrera engine, upgraded with brand-new Weber
40mm triple throat carburetors and PMO intake manifolds. The classically
high-performance engine develops 200hp and 197 ft/lbs, which isn’t a
lot, but then the whole car weighs no more than 2150 lbs. So the
performance is awesome.
To cope with the new-found oomph, the 914
was then fitted with a 915 transaxle with WEVO side-shift linkage,
Bilstein coilovers front and rear, upgraded suspension parts, 930
brakes, and 16” Fuchs wheels with 225/50-16 rubber up front, and
265/45-16 out back. The interior is insanely minimalistic, but who cares
when the exterior looks like that.
