Following
the launch of the GLE, GLE Coupe, and GLC, Mercedes-Benz now complete
their SUV range by adding a coupe version of the compact GLC crossover.
The 2017 Mercedes GLC Coupe makes it debut at the New York Auto Show
and immediately afterwards goes after BMW X4 and its market.
The car is exactly what it says on the
tin: it’s a coupe-like version of the new GLC. That hardly seems like an
appealing proposition. But at least it looks better than the ungainly
GLE Coupe, and it can take solace in the fact that the king of this
segment, BMW X4, is hardly a looker, either. What’s more, due to its
size and purpose, Mercedes GLC Coupe is tuned for a sporty look and
feel, and that’s a quality that should sit well with younger customers.
A sports suspension, more direct sports
steering, DYNAMIC SELECT and 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive with
9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission are the main highlights of
Mercedes GLC Coupe so far as dynamism is concerned. Engine-wise, the car
launches with GLC 220 d and GLC 250 d 4MATIC diesel engine delivering
170 and 204 horsepower respectively, and petrol units including GLC 250
with 211 hp, GLC 350 e 4MATIC hybrid with 320 hp, GLC 43 AMG with 367
horsepower.
The standard kit on the GLC Coupe shared
by all models include 18” light-alloy wheels, Chrome package with
visible exhaust tips, EASY-PACK tailgate, Audio 20 CD multimedia system,
reversing camera, KEYLESS-GO start function and upholstery in ARTICO
man-made leather, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, Crosswind Assist,
Headlamp Assist, ATTENTION ASSIST and ESP with Dynamic Cornering Assist.
