DCT-only and more than 407 PS
The lightly camouflaged Audi
TT RS spotted a few days ago is back in a new series of spy shots taken at
the Nürburgring where the car was undergoing testing ahead of next year’s
launch.
Volkswagen recently said they plan on postponing or
cancelling projects that are not entirely necessary, but most likely the TT RS
seen here is still on track for next year's launch and we already know for sure
it will retain the mighty 5-cylinder, 2.5-liter turbo engine. It is believed the
motor will be tweaked to squeeze more power and chances are output will surpass
the 400 PS (294 kW) mark and even more on a Plus version that is likely on the
agenda as well for a launch later during the model’s life cycle.
Compared to the TT
S test mule spotted before, this is actually prototype carrying many of the production bits and pieces, including a new front bumper with
beefier air intakes. It also has the RS-spec exhaust setup with active
butterfly valves, along with bigger side skirts, larger alloy wheels and
chunkier brakes. The bad news for purists is Audi will sell the TT RS exclusively
with a dual-clutch gearbox as there aren't any plans to offer a manual.
In terms of performance, expect the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h)
task to be completed in just 4 seconds before topping out at an
electronically-governed 155 mph (250 km/h), but an optional package could bump
that limiter to around 174 mph (280 km/h).
The 2016 Geneva Motor Show next March is a possible venue for
an official launch, with sales to commence in the second half of the year.
There's no word just yet about pricing, but given the TT S begins at €49,100,
the TT RS will probably cost around €60,000.
