Alfa Romeo Wants to Challenge the Germans With a Premium SUV of its Own

An emotionally-styled Italian SUV on steroids. Sounds good to us.

Think Alfa Romeo is content with only having one model, the 4C, on sale in the US? No way. First off, the 4C sports coupe is being built in very limited numbers. It’s anything but a mainstream model. But Alfa, under control of Fiat Chrysler, is anxious to launch an all-new lineup in the US that will consist solely of RWD and AWD, performance-oriented models. Mid- and full-size sedans are in the development phase (think BMW 3 and 5 Series rivals), and now we’re hearing that an SUV isn’t far behind.
According to Auto Express, Alfa is planning a new SUV that’ll take on the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Porsche Macan. And because those Germans just love to offer high-performance versions of their respective SUVs, Alfa is planning to offer a range-topping turbo V6 that can produce up to 500 horsepower. Nothing is official just yet but the report makes sense. Alfa is desperate to become an alternative to those premium German automakers, and an emotionally- styled Italian SUV on steroids could be just the ticket.
