There’s no such thing as having too much power. One would think that the Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG – with its generous 360 hp and 450 Nm of torque – is exorbitant enough, but there’s more to come in the power department, according to AMG boss Tobias Moers. Well then, who are we to complain?
The more hardcore version of the uber-hatch will apparently be lighter and more powerful than the current model, Moers told Auto Express. An even bigger output would help Mercedes-AMG retain its current crown of making the most powerful series production four-cylinder engine in the world, which will soon come under threat from Volkswagen’s upcoming 400 hp Golf.
We have previously spotted this prototype with flared wheelarches testing around the Nurburgring, leading us to believe that an A 45 AMG Black Series is in the works. But while such a car is in development, it may not be called as such, as AMG has decreed that the Black Series name can only be applied to two-door models.
The production A 45 AMG we know and love (it’s one of the very few cars to receive a full five-star rating on our sister site CarBase.my) is already plenty fast enough, with a 0-100 km/h time of 4.6 seconds. When the faster version does arrive, it will likely take on the new Mercedes-AMG name, as introduced on the latest C 63 and C 63 S.
