If we’re to be completely honest,
the XTS is not the type of Cadillac to champion the luxury carmaker’s
model lineup. It falls short in some areas, with emphasis on its GM
Epsilon II platform. But thankfully, the soon-to-be-launched CT6 will be
taking the flagship status from the XTS in late 2015.
Even though it’s almost a year until production of the CT6 will commence in Detroit, Cadillac’s US website now has a dedicated page for the upcoming model
in its “Future Cars” menu. It’s only natural though, mainly because
this car is a make-or-break for the General Motors-owned company.
Although no proper information is offered, the manufacturer does tell us that
“the Cadillac CT6 takes a new approach to prestige luxury. This
top-of-range sedan emphasizes a dynamic driving experience and advanced
technology. So ready your imagination as we prepare to reveal what’s
around the corner.”
If our judgement is correct, those words are hinting toward an upcoming
session of photo and video teasers in anticipation of the CT6’s reveal.
Are you excited or what? We were so excited, our team’s pixel wizard
made the masterful rendering above according to spy shots and the
visuals of current Caddys.
What else do we know about the long-awaited 2016 Cadillac CT6?
For starters, it will be underpinned by the new Omega platform.
If you’re not familiar with it, the basic stats look like this:
rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, feathery yet tough thanks to aluminum and
magnesium alloys and a longitudinally placed powerplant. Aside from the
CT6, a 2017 full-size Cadillac crossover and a possible Buick flagship
sedan will also make use of the Omega’s credentials.
As for engine choice, GM’s executive VP of global product development
Mark Reuss said that a twin-turbo V6 is in, as is an eight-speed
automatic (probably the Hydra-Matic 8L90). To boot, the CT6 will also
spawn a plug-in hybrid with "industry-leading fuel economy upwards of 70
mpg equivalent." Although unconfirmed, we believe the new-gen small
block LT5 V8 will debut on the Cadillac CT6 as well.
