So while we are all waiting to see the new ATS-V Coupe
in its official glory, Cadillac thought they should warm us up with the
racing version of the car, the Cadillac ATS-VR. This car is an
extension of the ATS-V Coupe and it is built to FIA GT3 specifications.
Set to hit the track next year, Cadillac ATS-VR race car
can compete in potentially more than 30 different GT series around the
world, where its 600-hp output and aerodynamic features will put it
right up against big names such as Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW,
Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and Porsche.
Not exactly known for their motorsport
prowess, Cadillac is confident the ATS-VR is the car with which they can
teach those Euro boys a lesson. The car is powered by a Twin Turbo 3.6L
V-6 boosted with twin BorgWarner turbochargers; increased capacity
intercoolers; competition engine management and a direct, side-exiting
exhaust. It also features a full aero kit and 18-inch lightweight wheels
with racing tires. This is good practice for when Cadillac wants to
release a special hard-core edition of the ATS-V Coupe.
”The V-Series is the highest expression
of Cadillac’s rising product substance,” said Johan de Nysschen,
Cadillac president. “Elevating and expanding the V-Series is the next
logical step in Cadillac’s growth, including this new race car developed in GT3-specification, enabling us to pursue racing on a more global scale.”
