Here is a collection of hot Fords from the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties waiting to be auctioned off at the-Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show.
There probably isn’t a true petrol-head who doesn’t love fast Fords, whether we’re talking about the American-built machines or the European-assembled ones. In fact, Ford has grown quite a cult around its nimble, fast and affordable creations, and these fine, desirable examples are a testimony of the car maker’s commitment to offering driving pleasure back in the day.
Out of the selection of high-quality and historically important, high-performance Fords – destined to go under the hammer by Silverstone Auctions – a 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 distinguishes itself due to its rarity. Only 500 units were sold in Britain and this prime example is one of them. To top it off, it’s one of the more powerful Evolution models and is one of just 56 examples to be finished in white. According to the auction house, the car presents itself in “time wrap” condition, having covered just over 13,000 miles (20,921 km), and that’s why its price is estimated at £70,000 - £80,000 ($107,971 - $123,400).
The Escort “Cossie” (Cosseh in British slang) is another modern classic with a cult formed around its remarkable performance figures. We’re talking, of course, about the 1996 Escort Cosworth model featured in the collection, which has all the ingredients to become one of the most desirable Fords of the modern era. It’s powered by 2.0-litre Cosworth YBP engine – capable of producing 225 hp and 310 Nm (229 lb·ft) of torque – which has covered only 7,700 miles (12,391 km) from new (although it had five previous owners). The £38,000 - £44,000 ($58,599 - $67,852) estimated price reflects the car’s condition.
Just like the Escort Cossworth, the 1993 Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth comes with all-wheel-drive, although it has a couple more doors. Apparently, it’s the last type of its kind to leave the production line – as confirmed by a letter from Ford Genk – and it has 20,006 (32,196 km) miles on the clock. The Recaro seats show a little wear, but its Mallard Green paintwork and the 220 hp, 2.0-litre Cosworth engine bumps up the price to an estimated £27,000 - £29,000 ($41,642 - $44,720).
The auction will also feature two iconic models to be sold without reserve, including a 1985 Ford Escort Turbo Series I that has covered just 5,568 miles (8,960 km), which is described to be in “Concours/factory-fresh condition” with only 1 registered keeper throughout its lifespan.
Completing the list are three Capri models; a 1978 3.0 S pre-production vehicle offered without reserve, a 1970 Capri RS2600, which is believed to be one of three factory prototypes, and 1974 Capri RS3100.
