2016 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet goes official

2016 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet goes official

Ford has taken the wraps off the 2016 Cobra Jet Mustang.
Currently on display at SEMA, the drag car is designed to compete in the NHRA Stock and Super Stock classes.
Since it's a turn-key race car, the Cobra Jet has been equipped with Strange Engineering brakes, an 8.50-certified roll cage and drag race-specific coilover shocks and springs.  The model also has Corbeau FIA seats, five-point race harnesses and Aeromotive fuel system with trunk-mounted fuel cell.
Ford didn't have much to say about technical specifications but the company confirmed the Cobra Jet engine has a Whipple supercharger and is heavily based on the 5.0-liter V8 engine that is used in the Mustang GT.   The engine is connected to a race-prepped automatic transmission which will enable the model to run the quarter mile in approximately eight seconds.
Production will be limited to 50 units and the first deliveries are slated for early next year.  Pricing starts at $99,990 but customers can order options such as a wheelie bar and a graphics package.
