2017 Mercedes GLS debuts in Los Angeles
Mercedes has unveiled the 2017 GLS at the Los Angeles Auto Show.Essentially a facelifted and renamed version of the GL, the GLS features a new front fascia with restyled headlights and a revised grille. The crossover also has a new rear bumper and updated taillights.
Buyers looking for a more aggressive appearance can order an optional Sport package on the GLS550. It features unique bumpers, running boards and 21-inch AMG light-alloy wheels.
The interior largely carries over but designers installed a new three-spoke steering and a free-standing COMAND Online infotainment system with an 8-inch display. The model also boasts revised trim and a modified center console with a new touchpad controller.
Customers will be able to an AMG Line interior package which adds nappa leather sport seats, a sports steering wheel, and stainless steel pedals with rubber studs. The package also includes new instrument dials with a graduated checkered flag motif.
In the United States a variety of different engines will be available including:
- A twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with 362 bhp (270 kW) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque
- A twin-turbo 4.7-liter V8 with 449 bhp (334 kW) and 516 lb-ft (699 Nm) of torque
- A twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 577 bhp (430 kW) and 561 lb-ft (759 Nm) of torque
- A 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 with 255 bhp (190 kW) and 455 lb-ft (616 Nm) of torque
