Updated KIA CEE’D Debuts In UK With Cleaner Engines From £14,905

KIA released UK pricing of the facelifted Cee’d, along with all the details of the model’s range.
The updated Kia Cee’d now features the company’s new turbocharged 3-cylinder 1.0-litre T-GDI petrol engine offered in two different power outputs, 98hp or 118hp,for the five-door Cee’d and the three-door Pro_Cee’d, with the Sportswagon model getting the latter engine only.
The new 1.0-litre T-GDI, destined to be used in more KIA models, makes 172Nm of torque between 1500rpm and 4000rpm in both versions and requires 10 to 15 per cent less fuel than the naturally aspirated 1.4-litre or 1.6-litre petrol engines that equip other models of the range. That means a fuel economy of up to 57.6 mpg UK and CO2 emissions as low as 113g/km, depending on the bodystyle and the model.
Also new is the 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine which now can be paired with a seven-speed, double-clutch automatic gearbox as an option, offering more power than before, up from 126 to 134hp. Torque is rated at 280Nm for the manual versions, with the 7-DCT offering 300Nm. Kia claims a combined 78.5mpg UK fuel economy and CO2 emissions that start from just 94g/km for the manual versions.
By adding the new 7-DCT option, KIA was able to cut the CO2 emissions by almost 25 per cent when compared to the old, six-speed auto version, from 145g/km to 109, with the fuel economy rated at a combined 67.3 mpg UK. The double-clutch gearbox was developed in-house and will be offered in more models in the near future, but for now it’s only an option for the 1.6-litre CRDi diesel model.
The updated range also benefits by the introduction of the GT-Line trim package, which features some visual elements of the sportier, more aggressive look of the GT model like the distinctive ‘ice-cube’ LED daytime running lights, twin exhaust and bespoke 17-inch alloys among others. The cabin of the GT-Line models features diamond-patterned upholstery with grey inserts, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear shifter, alloy pedals and high gloss-black details on the dashboard.
Kia has also retuned the chassis for better handling and comfort, with revisions from the front-wheel geometry to the suspension settings and a new, hollow rear anti-roll bar. The diesels now have additional noise insulation under the bonnet and in the cabin in order to achieve lower NVH levels.
The top-of-the range GT model gained bigger front brake discs, up from 16 inches in diameter to 17 inches, shortening the official stopping distance from 62mph (100km/h) by 11.2 meters, from 36.4 to 35.2 meters. There is also a new digital ‘sound generator’ which aims to deliver a sportier engine note into the cabin.
Among the new electronic driver’s aids are the Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert systems, with the latter preventing the car from being reversed into the path of another vehicle. As for connectivity, the new KIA Cee’d now offers a seven-inch infotainment system with TomTom Connected services with live traffic updates.
Pricing for the new KIA Cee’d starts from £14,905, with the three-door Pro_Cee’d and the Sportswagon costing £15,250 and £16,750 respectively in the UK market.
