Finally, after years of revisions and redrawing and reengineering the new Bentley Bentayga SUV
is ready in full production trim to make its debut at the 2015 IAA
Frankfurt Motor Show. You better like this one, because there is no way
Bentley takes it back to the drawing board and change it again!
If you have been following the chronicles
of Bentley SUV you know that they first came up with a fairly
ridiculous concept called EXP 9. That car got mocked so much for its
looks, they decided to redo the whole thing from scratch, and this is
the result. This time around they plates it completely safe. The
production Bentley Bentayga looks as uncontroversial as possible. It’s
basically a Continental GT in high heels.
That doesn’t mean the Bentayga is bad
looking or anything. The car has presence, and it conveys a feeling of
power and invincibility. We’ve been following the prototypes around the world
for the past year or so, and we can tell you Bentley have spent every
effort to make sure the Bentayga performs excellently on and off the
road. This thing will make the Range Rover look like Suzuki Vitara.
The 2016 Bentley Bentayga will launch
with the famous twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 engine, tuned to 608 PS
and 900 Nm of torque for use in the SUV. Later on there will be diesel
and plug-in hybrid variants, but Bentley is saying nothing about a V8
petrol model. The W12 model has a 0-60 time of 4.0 seconds and a top
speed of 187 mph (301 km/h).
Wolfgang Dürheimer, chairman and chief
executive of Bentley Motors, comments: “The Bentayga is truly the
Bentley of SUVs. It redefines luxury in the SUV sector and offers a
genuine Bentley experience in any environment, thanks to a combination
of unparalleled attention to detail, go-anywhere ability and
cutting-edge technology. With this extraordinary car we are looking
forward to an exciting period of strong growth and sales success for
Bentley. The Bentayga is the next step in our brand’s bold future.”
