Following
the S and the X, Elon Musk is now ready to introduce to us a new, more
affordable, and fairly compact electric car with the all-new Tesla Model
3. Designed to give the mid-size sedan buyers an electric alternative,
the Model 3 will start at around $35,000 before incentives.
Well, that is what Tesla is planning, and
as we know from their previous endeavors they are still not what you
call a profitable business. So there is a chance that by the time the
2018 Tesla Model 3 hit the market it is going to cost a lot more than
that.
At any rate, Tesla Model 3 looks on paper
like a promising little electric car. It is a major departure from the
norm in terms of design, going a completely different route than Model S
and Model X. It doesn’t look as fancy as the other Teslas, but it’s
pretty good for a car that’s supposed to cost 35 grand and rival the
likes of BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C Class.
As with any electric car, it is not the
looks that is going to sell the car, but the zero-emission powertrain.
The Model 3 comes with a high efficiency electric motor – details of
which are yet to be released – that will deliver a 0 to 60 mph sprint
time of less than six seconds and a range of over 200 miles. It is also
all-wheel-drive and comes with the latest safety and connectivity
systems.
Yes, it is looking good. We have to say
though, the interior looks awfully boring as it doesn’t feature a
dashboard as such. All the dials, buttons and instruments seem to be
crammed into a giant touchscreen. You ‘ll have nothing to look at except
this big slab of glass in your journeys.
