A license plate reading ’25 O’ in the U.K. has just set a new record for a personalised plate after selling for 518,000 pounds ($808,000) at a DVLA auction.
The plate was purchased by Ferrari collector John Collins and will sit on his Ferrari 250 SWB previously owned by Eric Clapton. At the auction, Collins also coughed up just over 130,000 pounds ($200,000) to purchase the plate ‘250 L’. It will adorn a 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso.
When discussing the expensive purchases, Collins said, “I was just determined to own them, it was just a case of how much I was going to have to pay for the privilege. I’m not too sure [what my limit was], it could possibly have been the first £1 million personalised registration.”
The DVLA personalised registrations’ events manager Jody Davies then said, “What a spectacular way to mark our 150th auction during our 25th Anniversary year. While we had high hopes for both registrations, we never dreamt they would be so successful and enable us to make history for the DVLA.”
