Most Elvis Presley fans might
know that the King of Rock’n’Roll’s favorite Cadillac was a
pink-and-white 1955 Series 60. Elvis himself sung about that Caddy, most
notably in a song titled Baby, Let’s Play House - “You may have a pink
Cadillac, but don't you be nobody's fool” the first verse of the 1954
tune read.
On August 16th, 1977, a 42-year-old Elvis Aaron Presley unfortunately dies due to an anaphylactic shock brought on by codeine pills, to which Presley was known to have a mild allergy. Nevertheless, Elvis lives on in our minds and hearts through his musical legacy. After all, he’s the best-selling solo artist in the history of recorded music, which is no small feat.
Us guys and gals with a love for gasoline and burning rubber are also reminded of Presley through his vast collection of vehicles the American icon owned through his short but full-on life. The previously mentioned 1955 Cadillac Series 60 may be the best-known car Elvis has ever owned, but the 1976 Seville we’ll talk about today is one of the most documented automobiles the King of R'n'R has ever driven.
Elvis bought, driven and sold many Caddys over time, but this Seville was the last Cadillac purchased by the artist for his personal use. That vintage marron-silver exterior paint job is still in tip-top condition, joined by a quarter of wire wheels. The cabin’s upholstery isn’t too shabby either, but we’re not that head over heels with the aftermarket front grille awash with bling-bling too shiny chrome.
Part of the Cadillac Series 6K model range, the Seville is a four-door sedan that’s powered by a 5.7-liter V8 with 183 PS and 275 lb-ft (373 Nm). Weighing over 1,900 kilograms (4,188 lbs) and with drive sent to the rear axle via a three-speed slush box, this is not a fast car, but a luxurious barge on wheels.
Elvis’ 1976 Seville is now on display at the National Motor Museum in Brockenhurst, Hampshire.
