Is This One of The Coolest VW New Beetles Around Or What?

We're absolutely smitten with this 2000s VW Beetle rat-rod conversion that we found for sale on eBay.

The original VW Bug was a flytrap for modifiers and tuners who created myriads of custom projects. The so-called New Beetle that was supposedly its successor made from 1997 to 2011, not so much, but there were some interesting exceptions to the rule like this intriguing build that looks like it came straight from the Mad Max movie set.

Not content with a "simple" pickup-truck conversion, the diesel-powered New Beetle's owner gave it a rustic look through a special paint job said to contain rust (or something that imitates it) along with some other interesting details such as the chrome trims and bumper guards.

Now, one thing I'd certainly change would be the alloy wheels, swapping them for a classic set of deep-dish VW-style metal hubs or something with a similar feel.

There's still some time left to get the 2000 New Beetle, with the highest eBay bid standing at $11,215 at the time we wrote this piece (without having met the reserve).
