Barely Camo'd 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE 63 AMG Coupe Scooped

Last week, Mercedes gave us fuzzy look at the new GLE Coupe AMG Sport, and now, our spies cornered a lightly camouflaged tester for the flagship GLE 63 AMG Coupe edition.

Comparing the photos we have in our disposal, we see that the GLE 63 AMG Coupe has a different front bumper than the GLE Coupe AMG Sport with larger, re-shaped corner and center air inlets, bigger front discs and other wheels.

However, the most important difference is the powertrain; whereas the GLE Coupe AMG Sport bridges the gap between the GLE 400 and the 63 AMG using a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter petrol V6 delivering around 360 to 370hp, the GLE 63 AMG Coupe gets Benz's new 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8.

The same eight-cylinder lump powers the C63 AMG where it's rated for 476PS (470hp) in the base version and  510PS (503hp) in the S model, as well as the AMG GT sports car where it's offered with 462PS (456hp) and 510PS (503hp). In the GLE 63 AMG Coupe, it will probably get closer to 600-horses to compete with BMW's rivalling 575PS (567hp) X6M.

Changes will be made to the suspension and standard all-wheel drive system as well.

The GLE Coupe should debut at next year's Detroit auto show, though, we don't know yet if Mercedes will hold back on the 63 AMG edition for later.
