Cadillac XTS Won't Be Replaced, ATS and CTS to Be Renamed

Cadillac XTS Won't Be Replaced, ATS and CTS to Be Renamed – Photo GalleryRelated to the Saab 9-5, Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Impala, the Cadillac XTS will not receive a replacement model at the end of its lifecycle. Caddy prez Johan de Nysschen confirmed this detail for GMI's Mark Stevenson during the reveal of the CT6.
We reviewed the Cadillac XTS and, put simply, it's the typical asphalt-yacht you would expect from a front-wheel drive luxobarge underpinned by the GM Epsilon II platform. Somehow I get the feeling that nobody will miss the XTS when it will be phased out, except for funeral services and stretch limousine companies.
The XTS was never posh, comfortable or dynamic enough to be a true flagship for the Cadillac brand. Of course, the Escalade doesn't count because we're talking sedans here, not SUVs.
With the arrival of the 2016 Cadillac CT6 full-size luxury sedan, GM's most pretentious marque now has a proper four-door flagship sedan, one that can go head to head with the best Germany has to offer.
GM Inside News also reports that de Nysschen plans to rename the successors of the ATS compact luxury sedan and CTS mid-size luxury sedan. "As we move into the future refining our sedan portfolio, there will be no direct successor to the CTS. There will be no direct successor to the ATS. There is no point to renaming those cars because in the future those cars will disappear," Johan declared. Our two cents will go on CT3/4 and CT5.

Regarding the businesses that took a liking to the XTS, de Nysschen noted: "We will not have a car that will lend itself to these kind of modifications and we will probably withdrawal from those markets."  Tough luck, guys.
