The Subaru Impreza Sport Hybrid is the brand’s latest hybrid model, but it’s only available in Japan for the moment.
The Impreza Sport Hybrid pairs a 150PS (148hp) 2.0 liter horizontally-opposed 4-cylinder petrol engine with a 10kW (13hp) electric motor incorporated in the specially designed Lineartronic CVT, high-voltage batteries and all-wheel drive, for a combined fuel economy of 20.4 km/L (4.9 l/100 km or 48 mpg US).
The automaker says the motor assist function offers smooth and linear acceleration.
The batteries and high-voltage components are located under the boot in order to make optimum use of the low center of gravity and balanced weight distribution that is characteristic to the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) layout.
The Subaru Impreza Sport Hybrid is equipped as standard with the EyeSight range of driver assist technologies. The hybrid system works together with EyeSight, enabling the Eco-Cruise Control function to make the maximum use of electric vehicle driving and regenerative braking when Adaptive Cruise Control is operating, which improves fuel consumption under everyday conditions.
In terms of styling the Impreza Sport Hybrid is differentiated from regular Impreza models thanks to sportier front and rear bumpers, special side-sill extensions, a roof spoiler and LED taillights.
Inside, the model gets exclusive blue accents, piano-black panels and metallic trim. The top-grade model features silver Ultrasuede seats with blue stitching, with other features including power seats for the driver and front passenger.
Prices start from 2,505,600 yen ($20,350), with the model going on sale in July 10 at dealerships across Japan.
