The 2015 Quail Motorsport gathering will mark the debut of the British exotic grand tourer David Brown Speedback GT
in the United States. The Jaguar-based coachbuilt motor will be
available in the American market as a made to order model, starting from
 $753,000.
That sounds like a lot of money for
what’s essentially an old Jaguar XK underneath, but if you want to drive
around in a super exclusive car of which there are only a handful
around the world, that is what it’s going to cost you. What’s more, the
Speedback GT boasts a pretty special design, with a hint of old Aston
Martin models and lots of wonderful little hand-crafted details.
Still, the main issue with David
Brown Speedback GT is that that kind of money can buy you an awful lot
of more interesting cars with better mechanicals. The GT is the kind of
car you have to completely and utterly fall in love with before you buy
it, which of course makes it a somewhat risky investment. It isn’t
especially fast either, packing 510 hp from a supercharged V8 which is
good for a 0 to 60 time of 4.5 seconds.
Company founder and CEO David Brown
said: “It’s been a fantastic year for Speedback GT since its launch.
Having had such a warm reception at a number of world-leading shows in
Europe, it is a natural progression to bring the car to an American
audience, where we’re sure there will be plenty of fans. We have already
received a lot of enquiries asking when we would be bringing the car
over so we’re really excited to finally be making the journey across.
The Quail is the ideal venue to exhibit Speedback GT, with its
luxurious, elegant, classic setting that encapsulate the car’s virtues
and is full of true  car enthusiasts.”
