Further details about a potential BMW i8S being created to celebrate BMW’s 100th anniversary in 2016 have surfaced with the latest reports from the U.K indicating that the car will be the automaker’s new halo car.
Car Magazine reports that the project is known internally as M100 with development being undertaken by the Project i team with programme director Roberto Fedeli leading the charge. While the car may be dubbed the BMW i8S, it will feature a plethora of new features to distinguish it from the existing i8 meaning it will essentially be a new car.
The Life and Drive modules of the existing BMW i8 will be maintained but they will be thoroughly revised with the rear seats also being eliminated to provide extra luggage space in the rear of the car. Elsewhere, the BMW i8S will feature a thoroughly tweaked suspension system as well as larger brakes and beefier tyres.
As previously reported, two engines are on the cards. The first could be a twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder tuned to deliver around 320 hp while a 3.0-litre straight six rated at 480 hp is also being considered.
