You’re looking at the redesigned 2016 Kia Sorento crossover. If it looks a bit familiar, that’s because it already debuted for the European market
earlier this year. This new photo is of the U.S.-spec version, which
will make its official debut at the Los Angeles auto show in a few
weeks.
While the current-generation Kia Sorento is more of a midsize crossover, the new one grows in size to give more room to third-row passengers. That means it will now compete with crossovers like the Chevrolet Traverse, the Toyota Highlander, and Hyundai’s own Santa Fe. The new 2016 Kia Sorento’s overall look still follows much of Kia’s current styling direction, with the corporate grille up front, clean lines along the side, and an attractively-styled rear end with horizontal taillights. The greenhouse is fairly upright in back, likely increasing third-row headroom.
The pictured white 2016 Kia Sorento looks to be the range-topping SXL trim, as evidenced by its abundance of chrome trim and flashy wheels. These trim updates, along with this model’s wild-looking foglights, are the only distinguishing factors between the U.S. and European versions of the Sorento, though we have not yet seen the interior or rear end of the Sorento that will arrive on our shores sometime next year. (The Euro-market Sorento is pictured in the gallery below.) Kia also says the Sorento will come in L, LX, EX, and SX trims, making for a wide price range for this three-row crossover.
We expect the 2016 Kia Sorento to be powered by the same 3.3-liter V-6 that’s in the current Sorento along with many other Kia models. It should be offered with both front- and all-wheel drive, and power will likely be around 280-300 hp. Keep an eye out for more details on the 2016 Kia Sorento when it officially debuts at the 2014 Los Angeles auto show.
