Audi has revealed new details in its next-generation production plan
this week, as the German luxury marque turns its attention to electric
power.
In a manufacturing shuffle, the company has confirmed that its plant
in Brussels, Belgium, will from 2018 focus exclusively on production of
its new electric SUV, along with the batteries that will provide the new
model’s energy.
The car maker has yet to announce the name of its new all-electric SUV, but ‘Q6’ remains the popular choice. Audi’s reaffirmation today that the new model “will fit between the Q7 and the Q5 in the product portfolio” leaves little room for doubt.
Audi also confirmed once more that its recent e-tron quattro concept
(pictured) offer “a clear indication of the final production version”.
Buyers can expect the new model to feature three electric motors and a
high-capacity battery design.
The new electric focus at Brussels means that other models will be shifted away, including the A1, which will now be produced at Martorell in Spain, while an additional shuffle will move the Q3 from Spain to Gyor in Hungary.
The Hungarian site is also responsible for building the A3 sedan, A3 Cabriolet, TT coupe and TT Roadster.
The news follows confirmation that Audi will also soon introduce a new Q2 compact SUV as a companion to the light A1, with both sitting beneath the Q3 SUV and A3 small car range.
