The brand-new Audi Q2
compact crossover has been steadily maturing since its debut at the
Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. It is now ready to be ordered in
the UK, but it’s not ready for use yet. The first deliveries will arrive
in Blighty in November.
Prices for the 2017 Audi Q2 start at
£20,230 which sounds reasonable for a German crossover, but there are
two problems with it. First, for the same sort of money you can get a
much bigger car if you go Korean, Japanese, or Czech. And second, as is
always the case with Audi, most of the good stuff in terms of equipment
are optional extras. A loaded Q2 that is livable runs for £30,610.
But if you are set on a Q2 because you
look it cutesy rugged looks, you should know the base SE model comes
with Audi smartphone interface, which supports Apple CarPlay and Android
Auto via MMI screen, USB, blue teeth, heated, electrically adjustable
exterior mirrors, and that’s about it. If you want anything fancier you
have to shell out £1,550 for the Sport trim which adds 17-inch alloy
wheels, Audi drive select with five operational modes, cruise control,
light and rain sensors and sport seats upholstered in cloth, as well as a
SD card slot! Above that there is the S Line
trim which costs an extra £2,250 on top of Sport, adding 18-inch alloy
wheels, LED headlamps with LED rear lights and dynamic sweeping rear
indicators, LED interior lighting, inlays finished in brushed aluminium
and front sport seats upholstered in cloth/leather upholstery with S
embossing on the backrests and a leather steering wheel. Other optional
goodies include Audi virtual cockpit and the head-up display, the driver
assistance systems, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go
function, and…
Engine-wise, the 2017 Audi Q2 launches in
the UK with a choice of two four-cylinder engines – the 1.6 TDI with
115PS and the Cylinder-on-Demand 1.4 TFSI with 150PS. A three-cylinder
1.0 TFSI with 115PS and a four-cylinder 2.0 TDI with 150PS will become
available later in the year. Four-wheel-drive is only available for the
2.0 TDI version.
