Official: Koenigsegg Regera Blends Scandinavian Luxury and Performance

They call it a "true Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde persona". 

 

After proving that it can go faster and lighter than just about anyone, Koenigsegg says it is ready to take the leap into true luxury territory. Introducing the Regera, a megacar that promises to be as mind-blowing on the open road as it is on track – the fastest accelerating, most powerful production car ever. Limited to 80 hand-crafted units and with a powertrain based on Koenigsegg 's dry-sump twin turbo, DOHC, 5.0 liter V8, the Regera will offer 1500 horsepower and 1475 lb-ft of torque (700 hp electric).

It will reach 400 km/h (248 mph) in under 20 seconds, pushed by a Direct Drive combustion engine. The Regera sheds weight, energy loss and fuel consumption by doing away with the traditional transmission, offering the world's most power-dense battery system and highest electric energy storage capacity of any hypercar. With a 50 km EV range, it promises to still produce a unique sound from its "fish tail" exhaust. A long list of 'world firsts' includes a fully foldable, active top-mounted rear wing, and fully robotized car body (including front and rear hoods, doors, mirrors, wing, change port and more), all with soft-close functionality and controlled by app or remote.

3G connectivity with remote app, software upgrades and pre-active chassis setups and Apple Car Play enabled mean this car is as tech-minded as it is gear-headed. It is also set apart by signature front end DRLs and Koenigsegg's "Superman" brake light. Iniside, loads of carbon fiber keep things luxurious and light, while an insulated motor and transmission, including active mounts, keep it quiet and luxurious. The Regera is finished in a dazzling Mineral Blue. With 6 orders already placed before the car was revealed, the number of available units is expected to drop faster than this car accelerates.
