Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off the latest version of the E63 AMG
sports sedan, revealing an absolute monster. Officially known as the
2018 Mercedes-AMG E63, this supposedly Executive Saloon comes in its S
version with a 603 horsepower V8 engine and a 0 to 60 time of 3.3
seconds!
That is pretty much hyper car performance in a car that is used as a
taxi in many European countries. There used to be a time when the
“experts” in the auto industry mocked AMG for needing higher
displacement for achieving the same power Audi and BMW did with much
smaller engines. Now though, the Benz guys are having the last laugh
because they are in possession of a 4.0 liter bi-turbo V8 that is
capable of 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. If that’s a bit too rich for your blood you can get the regular 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 tuned at 563 hp and 553 lb-ft, but it is going to take 3.4 second to hit 60 mph. I know, bummer! But come on, what you want is the E63 S because while both variants come with AMG Performance 4MATIC+ permanent all-wheel drive with variable torque distribution only the latter boasts a built-on Drift Mode. We’re just thinking what sort of businessman is going to buy a car with a drift mode…
Design-wise, while the new Mercedes-AMG E63 is still very much a wolf in sheep’s clothing, there are more prominent telltale signs that underneath that deceivingly normal looks lies a brutal monster. There is the radiator grille and coupe-style inset hood, the large AMG wheels, and the exclusive aero kit with its wings and spoilers. The best thing about this car is that despite all the performance goodness it is still a Mercedes-Benz which means you get plenty of style, plenty of luxury, and excellent safety.
