Will make world debut in Geneva next month.
Teased last week, Kia
will unveil the Sportspace concept at Geneva next month, showing what
design direction it intends to take for the new Optima wagon that will
arrive later this year. The four-seater shooting brake features ‘ice
cube’ quad headlights, the latest interpretation of the Korean firm’s
signature ‘tiger nose’ shutter grille, and a rear end the company
describes as having a ‘latin’ flavor. Under the bulging hood, Kia’s
1.7-liter diesel-electric hybrid engine comes mated to a sequential
automatic box with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
The stylish interior boasts one-piece leather seats,
silver woven fabric trim, a rearview mirror camera, raised center
console and a large touchscreen infotainment system. Rear passengers can
plug their tablets into the armrest, while roller bars built into the
boot floor aid luggage movement. However Kia is keen to point out the
cabin is “a pure design study with an essence for future projects.”
We'll learn more once the car is introduced at the Geneva Motor Show.
